November Updates & Reminders Letter

Attention 6th Grade Parents:
Happy Fall to one and all! As we approach the end of the Trimester, I want to just update and remind each and every one of my 6th grade parents/guardians about what is happening at St. Leo's School.
  • Permission Slips were sent home a few days ago for our Middle School Field Trip to see The Little Mermaid at IHA (11/17/2016). If you have not returned the Permission Slip and Payment of $14.00 - please do so by Monday, November 14th at the absolute latest. Mrs. Baier needs to get a final count for the School Bus. If your child is not coming with the rest of the class he/she must still be present at school as the field trip is only scheduled for part of the day. This is a wonderful experience for the students to partake in - especially on the heals of our very own Musical preparation.
  • St. Leo's Food Pantry - all classes are collecting items for those in need of a meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The 6th Grade Class has been tasked with collecting Beans and Cranberry Sauce (not in glass containers). Here's the catch - we are supposed to bring in enough to fill a box or two, but I suggested that we bring in enough for four boxes. So it is out mission to fill Four (4) or more boxes of Beans and/or Cranberry Sauce. I already brought in ten (10) cans - who wants to take the challenge?
  • November 23, 2016 is the end of the 1st Trimester. Your children have grown and acclimated so well to the Middle School - and I could be more proud of them. With that being said, the work is going to get a bit more challenging as we accumulate more information, learn about new techniques, and create higher levels of thought process and understanding. Be patient. Be understanding. Be strong. Remember that this is all new for our students - and there anxiety levels may be tested. Note that their teachers are here not just for them but for you too. Please reach out to me via email any time you wish or if you see me at drop-off or at night when I'm finally leaving. I am always here to lend an ear, opinion, or advice.
  • STEM Expo - I have introduced the base of the STEM Expo to my Middle School Students this week. NOTE - the research, content, construction, communication, and completion of the project is to be worked on in school 95% of the time and 5% from home. Students will be working in their groups to create a STEM Project that will be presented in February 2017. The top 4 teams will be selected and invited to partake in the Archdiocesan STEM Expo in March in which our students will compete against 35 other schools within RCAN. This is a brand new activity which will take place instead of the Science Fair. I am truly looking forward to  working with your children and seeing the Final Product.
  • Today, Nov. 11, 2016 - your children participated in the annual Veterans Day Memorial across the street. I am so very proud of their behavior, their appreciation to our Veterans, and their love for their God and Country. "Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." -Princess Diana
  • REMINDER - November 23rd is a 12:15 dismissal with NO AFTERCARE. St. Leo's School will be closed on Nov. 24th & 25th. Happy Thanksgiving.
  • Please be sure that you can log in to PowerSchool's Parent Portal and that you are checking your child's progression through each Trimester. Do not wait till the last minute or after the Trimester ends to inquiry.
Peace and Blessings,
Mr. James Falletti
